In a week we’ll be in saskatoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of film ladies weilding bows these days. These ladies tend to have some sort of socialist resistance theme. But unlike katniss, Halla existed in the “real world”, where the assault on society was far more inline with the real world. The presentation of detachment by the corporate state, and its shaping of mass consciousness was well done. Was it even a victory in the end, maybe just for Halla. Wonder if the sister will be in for more than 2 years.

Hahahaha yeah. Giant nazi piss scene is amazing. I wonder if that crazy bastard never knew it was corpses. So convinced was he. Love it

Not sure how you mean repeat? Definitely after he says it he looks into the camera. Repeat from which period? Loved when the hipster boy gets pissed on by the giant Nazi.

I agree with the comments below. The movie was so filthy, had to take a shower. The greeks were actually cooking all along, wonder if Honka really believed it was their cooking and not the rotting corpses. The movie presents Germans as the supreme winners of alcoholism.

Golden Gloves to this golden glove. I was truly revolted by this man. I love how the tension of the last scene (stalking) overwhelms the tension of returning (discovery) and then the hilarious joke where the germans are still able to hate the stupid foreigners. Oh and the goat head mouth tongue cut was fantastic. Was that final phrase given by Fritz a repeat? It was definitely a message to the audience. I wish I could remember. ‘If I said it. Then it is so.’

One of the finest head explosions put to tape.

This is pretty much how i went through the Y2K moment. A bit more vomit on my end, but less feces in the face. I liked the scaling intensity, with a very satisfying climax. The intense focus on intense stupidity seems to me a correct assessment of the modern age.

um, i just watched that movie. that is all.

I often feel I am like the basement dwellers when I go into an establishment and ask for the wifi password

Ya, the stabbing was so visceral. Probably some of the finest stabs i have seen put to screen. The slow boil upfront really paid off at the end with the carnage. I did not expect to laugh as much as I did. Really liked how much the poor families liked each other. There was never a snide moment between the members. I liked the theme of the vacuousness of rich people pitting the poor class against itself as they scramble for crumbs fallen from the table.

Stabby stabby stab stab. Love the whole thing. Really like the slow descent into watery hell and the secret, shit covered cigarette. The sister was 🔥. Fun and frightening. 1.15/1 lbs of butter

Diamantino” is one of those movies that looks super fun to make but is mind-numbing to actually watch. One can imagine co-writers and co-directors Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt having a grand old time believing every idea they think up is wonderful, and the sets — opulent mansions, scenic exotic beaches, etc. — as prime party spots for the attractive cast after filming wraps.

Hope that was the case. As for us poor saps in the theater, we must blow the whistle and show the red card.

Cheap as in taking cheap shots like flushing the toilet as he’s showering or money cheap? Ty does seem to like rich people. Except when they talk about Jesus and lambs.

Fuuuck Tyler is so annoying. Though that woman did seem to want to bang with that big old hug. Chain cross. Not brother.

Why does Ty like Cera?

Seems like Tyler never wanted to be here and the main friendly doesn’t help make him feel welcome but why did Grumpy Tyler come if he seems to have such a bad attitude about the whole thing. Get off facebook, stop calling your prayer circle girlfriend.

Netgear are very good routers

Another great study in the human condition by Sebastián Silva. I felt very uneasy and on edge during the whole movie, even though it was just a weekend at a cabin. The only trauma was emotional. A build up of microaggressions. The agressors aren’t your typical movie bad guy, but they are typical, just a bunch of dudes. Your coworkers, neighbours, acquaintances… friends? Not my friends! You guys are all great!

Yup, one of the most horrifying things i can imagine, he did it again. What i really enjoyed was the setup for the madness. The long interviews, then bam that opening dance number, so fucking incredible. Then some more talking and then we get to the self mutilation and child killing. When the lights got red, full on nod back to irreversible. I liked how the whole movie was itself a dance, with its pieces serving the ebb and flow of momentum. Ofcourse we all should have known that the villain was the german. PRetty great. She had one of my favorite set of moves in the bikini at the start. Also really liked when girl in black dress does this squat kick movement with 4 other dancers as they move their arms from side to side. Not to mention the big pelvic thrust from the boys at one point, transitioning into the linked up machine stomper. This would be what i believe is meant when a movie is dubbed, cinematic.

## Climax ##
#######################################

I rate this film 1/2 a pound of butter. I felt it could have looked a million times better. It dragged. I feel there could have been more skillful fighting and tying. I am not sure if my cultural retardation is why I didn’t get how the characters could behave in certain ways but I found the introduction to be super badass. Funny dialogue, great exterior shot of pimp igloo 5000 and nice life slice with the family and the divining rock. After that, I sort of lost interest until the last few minutes. Shocked was how I felt when dude bashed other dude with rifle. That seemed entirely too reasonable of a thing for him to do. I would have expected them to roll around awkwardly for hours again. I liked when buddy gave baddy the option of escape as opposed to death.

Landscapes were cool. Filming of the landscapes was seemingly shit. I am not sure if it was the rip but things seemed muddy despite the stark whiteness. One of my favourite scenes was the fight at the end where you saw the dead guy on one side and the fight on the other. But the camera moves throughout the shot. Really liked the dogsled running and switching off as they’re gaining on the baddies.

Speaking of the baddies, I don’t understand how they can waste so much time chasing down and fighting the women. Is it cultural to freely kill old people and children without a thought but then not knock out a lady so that you can more easily drag her to your sled? And the whole tea scene was ridiculous. Unbelievably stupid to put your captive, untied with fully access to effective weapons.

Was a little disappointed not to see buddy pop off two baddies with one bullet.

Limited diet? Hardly. Ketosis all day everyday.

I enjoyed watching this to see the landscapes and ways of existing in such a landscape. I wish the cinematography was better, but obviously they were working in extreme conditions. I particularly enjoyed the scenes where they were shaping the igloo cubes. The sight and sound of the knife carving the hard snow… very satisfying.

This movie has confirmed what many of us already knew: Loons are badass.

First the positive. I really enjoyed the showcase of a type of life which to me seems unimaginable. How people endured on such a limited diet in such extreme conditions is incredible. The average task, getting on the sled, dealing with clothes, moving around, and building shelter seems like so much trouble that I dont see how a community would not just push in one direction until they were away from such circumstances. I suppose the snow is whiter? Now, the negative, I was mostly bored. I have not seen the fast runner, so would be curious to check it out, but this movie dragged. Overall happy to have seen it, because of its incredible undertaking and striking presentation, but i wished that it had tighter pacing or something i dont know…..less boring.

Wobbly pops. Great musvid. Wobbly dicks. Was hoping for more dick, actually. A little lacking in dick. But good. It was good.

Samson lost his locks but I think he gained agency once he decided/forced to cut by himself. Very meandering but I enjoyed it. Glad that weiner boy was forced to move out. He seemed to take too much enjoyment from her accomplishments. I hated Eugene but I think I only hated him because he was desperate to hold on.

I liked this movie!

Yup, that seems about right. I like how this movie was seemingly meandering but with interesting focus here and there. The trump presidency, russians, and ambivalence. I enjoyed the dialogue quite a bit, and felt it presented a realistic aspect of modern dating/romance. Linklaters slacker comes to mind. Whenever dasha sneered, I was delighted. Certainly she felt Eugene had worms in his brain.Im not really clear on what was in the forbidden room. Eugene goes in there once and then there is some sort of dream sequence? Whats in there?

Emil provided. He was a provider. Mischief and excitement for Anna (underwear and magic). Booze for the sad fucks (booze). Administration work for the administrators (booze, thievery). Wrestling practice for Johan (greco-roman). Did he kill the guy with his booze or was it the horrific mining conditions and dust? I can’t believe these townspeople as they don’t even know how to make better booze. Like who drinks something some random guy made from random chemicals? What chemicals are the even?

I’m unsure if Johan is dead. I think the workers likely threw him out and maybe gave him some nice stones to the face. Doesn’t seem like a fitting end. I liked the scene when all the workers were also soldiers. I believe it points to Emil’s innocence. He did not really grasp that he was ostracized and almost murdered by these people and still considered them his brothers in arms.

I’m not convinced we see a great change in Emil towards manhood. The end scene is still him doing childish bullshit. The fact that his brother left with Anna still there indicates that he beat the shit out of Emil and can rub the spoils in his face. Emil’s playfulness is presented throughout the film like the copycat pissing scene and the fact that he hauls a rifle to a perfect sniping position in the factory only to leave a prank brick to smash the boss’s window. I believe the scene of him blowing his load while running through the forest follows. Did he ever have bullets?

I liked Emil, even though he was a theif, a peeping tom, violent, a vandal, and committed manslaughter. It seemed like most of the movie he was a young man floundering. He saw his brother with the girl he wanted and he was always seeking the approval of the older men he worked with. The overlaps with the military scenes made me think of the kind of youthful desires which breed desire for comrades, and war. His obsession with the rifle, especially when at midpoint he does a nude presentation of firing positions was interesting. But at the end, when the woman accepts him and is kind to him, it seems to calm all the anxiety in him and he becomes playful and kind. He shows her tricks and is praised for it. The last trick i found particularly impressive, where perhaps the color change of the liquid symbolizes a change within Emil. But what is the fate of the brother? Did Emils ascendance to becoming an adult male cost his brothers life?

If I had kids I would make sure that all of their devices and social media platforms were paddington 2 themed. I could probably go about this by carefully grooming the children into a paddington 2 mindset by exposing them to repeated viewings during early childhood education. Perhaps as adults they will end up acting like that very grown up and big boy bear, paddington. Saying please and pardon me, so polite! Really enjoyed the prison gang and their obsessions with fine deserts, knuckles in particular was fun to watch. I wonder if there is any correlation between fans of paddington and diabetes. We could use cookie monster to boost our stats. But that bear certainly wants to eat nothing but sugar. The interesting comparison lies between Paddington and Winnie the pooh. British brats who eat gooey sweet stuff. Pooh is more of the base ingredients eater, raw honey, straight from the hive. Paddington opts for the conceptual intrigue of marmalade. It would be very interesting to sit these bears down and ask them to eat each others sweet goo. Get a candid reaction of them licking up each others goo and try to see which derives more pleasure from the experience. This is how we could determine which British bear has the sweetest goo around. I very much liked this movie.

***

I can confirm that Paddington 2 is indeed a ‘people’ movie, and not simply a child’s film. One would have to be heartless to not find Paddington’s joy and happiness heartwarming, endearing and ever so entertaining. The supporting cast turns in excellent performances, even as they mock themselves ever so slightly. And the expressiveness of the CGI bear is very well done. Culturally it may be easy to dismiss this film as mere fluff piece or, to borrow a literature term, ‘escapist fiction,’ but that belittles the value of good manners and positivity that Paddington spreads in the world – attributes we should all embrace more often, and not just at this time of year.

Paddington 2 – well worth the watch. Creative, imaginative, entertaining and fun.

########################

Paddington. This movie was incredibly enjoyable to watch. I do not believe it is a children’s movie, or a movie for kids with some “adult” “jokes” spliced in so that parents can “enjoy” a kid’s movie. It is a people’s movie, a movie that all people can enjoy for the same reasons (plot, characters, visuals), regardless of age. So just watch it already and stop being such a child.

I’m going to write something about Terra Franca, which I meant to do a while ago but never got around to it. It will be out of order. Some people may complain about the comments being out of order, but guess what, I can write whatever I want here. I could write about my last poop if I wanted to. No one would be able to stop me because I have free will and self-determination and neither the forces of the universe nor the implied rules of this forum will control me! So, Terra Franca, I enjoyed this movie, I thought it was beautiful, love the subdued colours that come out in the low light fishing hours. I have a hard time believing it is a documentary because of the way the narrative carries throughout, how the characters don’t seem to notice the camera, and the idea that someone would be willing to have them filmed in such a way while participating in illegal activities. But I will chalk it up to excellent clip selection and editing and a special relationship that the filmmakers must have developed with the family for them to become so comfortable. I will also admit, I was a little bit sleepy and hazy from the consumption of #legal weed, which likely altered my perception of the film. I wonder if it made me like it more or less? Either way, people should take the time to watch this film, they will become more well-rounded and complete humans by doing so.

Some faces almost seem as if they are carved out of stone, and yet they are so expressive. Such is the case for Albertino Lobo, a modest solitary fisherman who works on the river Tagus in his small motorboat. Fairly curt yet very kind, the moustached man in his mid-forties is the central character of a film that keeps its cards somewhat close to its chest. Indeed, after a phase of quiet exposure to the protagonist’s daily life (rising before dawn, walking through the snack bar run by his wife Dalia, working on the Tagus, laboriously harvesting shrimp and clams, as well as an outline of the rest of his family, consisting of his two daughters Laura and Lúcia, his son-in-law Tiago and his very young granddaughter Alice), the film becomes a sort of social drama (Albertino’s fishing equipment is seized when the local area is declared a nature reserve and permission is required to throw nets – our hero waits, without certainty that he’ll ever get authorisation), before finally evolving quietly into a portrait of a family and its generations, culminating in a marriage.

A refusal to dramatise events is what gives Ashore its charm and worth, preferring instead to proceed with small touches here and there in order to create a picture of a life that is lived and passed on, just like the vast river that flows and the huge bridge that allows one to cross it, both of which are ubiquitous in Albertino’s existence, whether he’s standing on his boat contemplating the world around him, or smoking in front of his house. This man of few words says a lot about the state of his country (“they starve people”), his love for his nearest and dearest, the past and his simple outlook on life. Over the course of a few seasons (from autumn to summer), the film paints a subtle picture of a conventional and supportive couple, and the handover to a new generation with all its differences. All of this is done without grand gestures or theatrics however, which could easily lead it to become a tedious chronicle, but which it avoids becoming thanks to the sensitivity of the director, who manages to delicately create endearing characters and give impetus back to the story when it borders on running out of steam (with the help of a few songs by Nat King Cole and Otis Redding, and some beautiful shots of the river – Leonor Teles is also the director of photography for the film). By immersing itself in the rhythm of the unalterable current of existence, Ashore pays modest homage to the humble individuals who are at odds with sensationalism, a choice that calls for a certain patience on the part of the audience, but which bears fruit in the long run.

Money grubbing is a very real part of the Chinese dream. The entire society revolves around getting and displaying wealth. The movie depicts a ‘white trash’ China. Akin to Gumbo perhaps. Shangri-La was renamed after Hilton’s novel and is a laid-back tourist city on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. The name comes from a government drive to raise tourism in the area and it is sold as an idyllic land. The montage to me mocks the tourism brochures as the people involved know of its reality since they live in the South as depicted by the poorly animated lizard on the tracks. I do believe the film challenges the party’s desired Chinese portrayal but don’t feel it cuts as deep since it revolves around money and development which are golden.

The failure refers to the tone of the movie up against thematic points, such as money grubbing characters, euphoric presentation of a communist ideal in the elevator montage and the detached isolation of everyone involved. Shangri La, being the global icon of idealism presented by James Hilton, is used to reinforce how off the rails the communist project went (hence the communist poster styling of the elevator sequence), and failed to deliver on the promises made to the people which it exploited. Much like the American dream, the Chinese dream has been unmasked in the recent decade and now societies are trying to understand, what went wrong. This guys movies are not well regarded by the Chinese govt, not outright banned yet, but he is certainly in some catalogue list next to Ai WeiWei. Some interviews out there with him which are interesting.

I challenge the failed Chinese dream statement. That’s what most developing industrial cities look like. Massive construction sites and shitty falling apart buildings. They’ll be filled with gaudy townhouse blocks and the farmers whose land they stole will get a couple or so empty concrete shells to live in. They’ll become depressed as there really aren’t any jobs and their way of life is fucked with no land. But it’s fully the realization of modern super cities to replace the rural wasteland and bring prosperity to the people. It’s working pretty well. I totally agree about the lizard crossing the tracks. I think it’s purposeful as it’s be such a pain in the ass to animate. Like the scooter going through the bump at the intro scene. The trike. It hits the pothole and looks ridiculous. Maybe it’s purposeful. Do all the characters only move on a flat plane? I’m not sure uncle Liu is getting up alive. In the darkness, the posture he wakes from is one of prostration. He is bowing towards something and I’d assume god. Could also be to his boss though. Time for ‘Have a Nice Next Day’ and Have a Nice Day after Next.’

Ugh stop double posting!

Oh man. I’ve stayed at these hotels. I lived in the development zone. Like a less epileptic butter zone. Love the butcher🔪

Sick music vid. I love that song because it was the midi file on some site I used to visit in the 90s.

Oh ya, also, the shot when skinny sprays some mysterious shit in anans face (see cover). Super creep show shot and tone, really great.

I really enjoyed the portrayal of the failed Chinese dream. The still canvases were exceptional, but a bit unfortunate when at times they chose to animate a moving sprite over top of them. There was this weird floating effect, like the movement wasnt jiving with the landscape. Great characters, was pretty bummed when the inventor and skinny ate it. Hopefully the couple made it to shangri la (fantastic dream sequence with the old propaganda styling). Uncle Liu getting up after credits makes me stoked that this could be an ongoing story, a universe, would happily see how the botched plastic surgery gets resolved and who will hench next for Liu.

Whelp, another sexy movie. I enjoyed how the middle of the movie was so concentrated on the family drama, it almost made me forget that there is a rapey tentacle monster living in the woods. The woods were presented in a way that reminded me of Antichrist and The Witch, a symbol of hedonistic female sexuality. But the interesting deviation was that the woods merged naturalism, with aliens, which are as natural as anything if they do exist, and stand in direct confrontation with the catholic church whose specter loomed large over the lives of our characters. The crater orgasm was one of the most amazing shots in cinematic history, wonderful. I was really happy that the movie fully delivered the alien visually, where at first i was worried that the Indy budget would not allow it, but then bam, full on sex scene tentacle in gaping mouth that would make a Japanese man blush.

I wonder if the decision to use women was solely for them to be able to suck back all that plant cum. Franky Munez would never have done that.

A Clockwork of Dr. Moreau? I’d like to screen this at an MRA meeting. The problem is that I would have to attend an MRA meeting and that the movie does not contain enough cum for those jack offs.

On to Charlie…

Right before he fell the camera lingered on some rebar. I assumed re bar through face and a pillowy landing on stone powder. The Jesus facing direction is a neat idea, didn’t consider it to that degree.

Back to Bravo…..

Was he carving the Jesus face to his image? Are we to take he is metaphorically Jesus? Just like Jesus he is resurrected and comes back but nobody recognized him (except the town drunks and his father). We guess it is no coincidence that Jesus was initially facing the town, offering benediction but then has turned his head away by the end…

Liked the pig scene just before the accident, lord of the flies-esque, and kids chanting death ….We also liked the accident scene as well – the muted suddenness (sure, the lack of climbing harnesses is a safety oversight, but what about the association between cement dust and respiratory problems? Will the lack of a respiratory mask add to the protagonist future grief?). But anyway, how does one lose their face but remain able to walk (with completely unscarred arms and torso) from a 10-story fall? Perhaps he scraped the wall as he fell and that slowed him down enough to not splatter at the bottom.

We liked the movie overall, its our first exposure to Polish cinema and although neither of us was a fan of the blurry-edge effect, the filming was neat and the grittiness and unpleasantness of the characters, and depressive rural setting was very believable. Do they have underwear buying frenzies anywhere? Is it to prevent shoplifting? Or is it because regular buying frenzies are not sufficiently undignified?

Cheap Studs is amazing. I like how they tie in the cowboy theme of the last film which also rears its head in Twarz with the fifffl feisty steed

Funny. I like it. Not sure why one comrade is so down on our guy. Not turning down a radio # dealing with the pain of having your face ripped off and then replaced with some shitty face and having your family hate you except your dad and sister. Seemed like most of the film had the edges blurred. Didn’t really bother me and I’m not sure they were going for a miniature effect maybe more an example of how our protagonist sees. Or how everyone sees. Blinders on, only thinking of what’s important at that time.

I think the guys were at the underwear rampage, because when they are driving back the one guy says slow down or you’ll crash and ruin your new tv or some such. The tv is super Metal.

Sweet church exit after father gets his spank bank filled.

Great falling scene. Love the use of sound. Love the arms shaking in victory. Sad metal car ride back really sets the mood

Uhhhh no mention of underwear rampage cut to metal?

I do like the movie. There were no good and no bad people. There was a situation, possible in any place on the earth. Waiting for more, Leonid.

Ya Im not really sure what the director was trying to achieve with the tilt shift. My best guess was to represent a god like perspective, where the small little beings below go about their business. The filter was applied here and there and not in other palaces and there didn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason in it. The main character was a douche, when in a car and someone is being irritated by loud music it is common courtesy to turn it down, I don’t care how good of a deal you got on your TV at the underpants sale. So later when hes being all pouty It was hard to sympathize. Was the love he claims to have felt for his future wife any more genuine than her false love for him. Loved the scene with the pigs head, dogs, and kids. Overall liked the movie, had a good time watching it, but felt it lacked focus (pun intended! LOL!) and didn’t quite pull together its weighty ideas.

I enjoyed the most recent offering. The deep vacuousness of the protagonist no matter what was thrown his way. Fake tilt shift really bums me out tho.

Can’t believe Meinhard gave the knife to that kid. Uncle sees everything from that balcony. Money can’t cure the fact that you killed his horse and what kind of bullshit is it that those guys can ride bareback.

I have definitely been a part of that high low tourist roller coaster. Things go so well at first and then the reality that you don’t really know what’s going on hits hard…but it’s okay to dance. You’ll be gone in the morning anyway. Totally ruins the party when some other tourist is there to remind you of your place.
I’m in love with the old woman. I want to go and work for her before the sun rises and have her cure my headaches. I feel the portrayal of humanity to be the strongest part of the film. The conversations breed understanding without shared language.
Meinhard seems to understand death and is reluctant to engage in discussion of slaughter. Were he a pretend soldier he’d likely be overboard in his portrayal of heroism. The scene with the horse shows empathy for the man who loved it most, the gravity of the task and a sense of responsibility to what he started. The aftermath when he loses his cool in the quarry is as close as we get to the violence that simmers beneath the surface of Meinhard. It’s constant within all the scenes. Tortured soul that one. I think the French was just them throwing words around to find common ground.

Oh, and no way he was a legionnaire. He made that shit up.

Good movie. I thought the ending spoke to the whole movie. When Adrian said that is what villagers do after he got beat up.

He was looking for acceptance somewhere, but realized every place and every group has their shittiness and you have to deal with it and go back to Bulgarian dancing.

I really enjoyed this movie but was disappointed that horse killer didn’t end up in a rock crusher.

I can’t tell if it is the ’90s Bulgarian cars, the clothes, or what, but this feels like an older movie than it is. It threw me off when he said he fought in Afghanistan.

Nothing has ever gone wrong when germans decide to fly their flag in another country

Brando uses butter

I really enjoyed this movie. Do you feel that our protagonist was actually a soldier? He kept saying legionnaire, which is a french soldier? And at certain times the other characters spoke french to him and questioned him on it, he seemed oblivious. Im not sure if this was a lie he told to ingratiate himself to the locals or not. He did not strike me as a liar.

Wonderful interaction early on with the horse, and the kids who did not understand each other.
